GLEN ALLEN, VA (WWBT) – Glen Allen is getting a glimpse into the future with a new supercharger station from electric car company Tesla.

The station is the first of its kind in Virginia and allows owners to get a full charge on their vehicle in 20 to 30 minutes.

Tesla’s latest model was awarded Motor Trend’s Car of the Year and operates completely without any gas. Tesla hopes to soon have the entire country connected.

“We are going to have these stations up and down both coasts and across the country. That will be done by early next year. From there by the end of 2014 we expect to have 80 percent of the United States covered,” said James Chen of Tesla Motors.

On a full charge, the Tesla models can travel around 300 miles at full speed, but they range in cost from $60,000 to $100,000.  The company hopes to have a $30,000 model available in the near future.
